Sir George Young is in touch with Hampshire County Council about their proposals to increase from 2,000 to 3,000 the number of new homes to be provided in Andover by 2011.
“I have been in close touch with the Government and the County Council, to reduce the overall total of new homes expected to be provided in the County. My view has been that the County should provide for the new homes needed for a growing population within the County; but that it should no longer have to provide for continued inward migration from other Counties.”
“I was pleased that Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton could all agree on a headline figure of 44,000 – some 10,000 less than the figure proposed by SERPLAN. But this reduction should have meant that Andover would also provide less. Instead, the County have proposed a 50% increase from 2,000 to 3,000. The reasons are not explained in the document and so I am in touch with the County to find out what is going on.”
Sir George is also in touch with Test Valley Borough Council to get their reaction.
