Sir George visited the Oak Bank Family Centre (Pregnancy Crisis) at Oak Bank, where he met Joyce Proia,(seated on left) the Chairperson and Centre Co-ordinator, together with many of the volunteers who staff the centre.
“Oak Bank gives help and support to women who are pregnant, and who need someone to turn to. They also offer practical help during and after pregnancy.” Sir George said he was impressed by the skills available – the volunteers had completed the appropriate counselling course – and the sympathetic and understanding approach. “They have the time and space to talk things through, when many professionals are too pressed for time. I was glad to hear they are building links with local GP’s and with other voluntary organisations, such as CAB, who can also help.”
