Sir George judges speaking competition

Sir George presented the prizes of the Lloyds TSB Voices of Tomorrow Trophy 2000 speaking competition, which was held at Peter Symonds' College Winchester. His fellow judges were Mrs Lisbeth Rake (left) Education Correspondent of the Hampshire Chronicle, and Mr Dudley Mortelman (right)Senior Manager of Lloyds TSB, Southampton Branch.
The competition, the first of its kind was sponsored by Lloyds TSB and organised by students at Peter Symonds.
"I hope this event is held again" said Sir George. "The standard was very high, and the local MP's had better watch out."
Each of the 21 contestants had to speak for five minutes, on a pre-selected subject, and were judged on style, delivery, content and impact on audience.
The winner of the senior competition was John Rose (Peter Symonds' College) - next to Mrs Rake, and the runner up Robert Harrison (Sixth Form College, Farnborough) on the right.
The junior competition was won by Jasmine Swallow (Bay House School)- on Sir George's right - with runner up Gillian Atkins (The Westgate School) - on Sir George's left.
Personality of the evening was Louise Fenucci (Lord Mayor Treloar College) foreground
