Guest at St Johns Playgroup in Oakley was the local MP, Sir George Young. It was founded in 1973 by Rita Hoskins, who still helps to run it and it is still going strong.. On Sir George’s right is Margaret Lee, the Leader; and helping Sir George with his development skills are Alfie Bisset and Sarah Street, both aged 4.
“The playgroup is oversubscribed, which shows how popular it is; and I enjoyed reading the excellent reports compiled by the Inspectorate. It had a warm and welcoming atmosphere and was well-equipped with teaching materials and toys.”
The playgroup has applied to the lottery for help with furniture. Sir George is visiting as many local playgroups as he can, at the suggestion of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
