Test Valley Borough Council launched its Spring Road Route at the Guild Hall, Andover, where Sir George cut the ribbon.
"The route, which goes to Winchester and back, was planned for Test Valley by the Cyclists Touring Club, and the riders could not have had a better day for it." riders had the option of 20, 50 or 100 kilometer route.
Each year, Test Valley plan a tour to promote the area as a tourist destination, and to provide leisure opportunities.
"Theresa Bradley and her team did a first class job in organising the event, with hundreds of cyclist joining in."
Cutting the ribbon, Sir George predicted that they would all have more fun than those starting the London Marathon at the same time.
Sir George joined in the ride on an earlier occasion, but the riders understood that this year Sir George - a CTC Vice-President - had other commitments.
