George and Aurelia Young spent a morning at Basingstoke Hospital in the Sherborne Building, looking at maternity and gynaecological services. They were shown round by Gina Hanafin, Helen Fraser and Donna Green.
"There was a lot of building work going on in the maternity ward, providing new delivery suites with better facilities and more privacy. I welcome this improvement. It was interesting to hear that there were no vacancies in this department, and that staff turnover is relatively low."
"We met a new born baby and two happy first-time parents who were delighted with the service they had received."
"The staff we spoke to mentioned the paperwork, and there did indeed to seem to be a lot of paper around. I hope we can move gently towards a reliable paperless system. I was surprised at the very low percentage of mothers-to-be who chose home delivery - well under 10% - despite the ready availability of a high quality midwifery service"
George and Aurelia popped into the ARK Centre for a coffee nefore their tour, to catch up on the news.
