North Hampshire NFU completed their questioning of local parliamentary candidates by spending an hour with Sir George, asking him about his party's policy on bureaucracy, planning, housing, bovine TB, fallen stock, the CAP and bio-diesel.
"James Crosbie-Dawson chaired a very useful meeting - and it was helpful to have met many of the farmers before and to have read the NFU manifesto. Bio-diesel was the issue that many felt strongly about - this would provide a useful crop and develop a renewable source of energy. There was some scepticism about wind turbines, and a lot of concern about bureaucracy at DEFRA. I hope I was able to persuade them that a Conservative government would be more sympathetic to farmers than the present government, which has its roots in the cities."
