I understand that Royal Mail have decided to keep the above office open.

"I welcome the decision by Royal Mail not to close the Delivery Office at Whitchurch, which was under review. There was a splendid campaign led by the Town Council which I enthusiastically supported - and which was backed by hundreds of local people in the Town who wanted to save the office. Otherwise they might have had to go to Basingstoke to collect their parcels.
I also met postmen who walked to work, sorted their delivery, and then walked their rounds. Had this function been transferred to Basingstoke, they would have had to drive to Basingstoke (there is no public transport at that time of day) to sort their letters and then drive all the way back to Whitchurch. This would have made no sense. I am glad that Royal Mail have backed off."
