The £90,000 extension to Ashford Hill Primary School was formally opened by Sir George. "The school now has a splendid new foyer, which gives a much better first impression of the school, as well as more space for the office. There is also more teaching space, a new medical room and a new room for the Head, Susan Watson. This is a popular and successful school, which will now be able to provide an still higher quality of education"

After opening the extension, Sir George attended the school fete. "The school is fortunate to have a very active PTA, that has helped supply play equipment for the school. The school has also done well to get sponsorship from local firms such as AWE, which has increased the capital funds available to the school."
