Sir George opened the Shipton Bellinger Village Fete, thanking the 6th Battalion REME (stationed at Tidworth) for their help in setting up the fete.
"They fenced off the arena, and provided tents for the barbecue and beer tent - and they are building a cycle track for the village to link it to Tidworth."
"Many congratulations to John Hughes and to Mr and Mrs Batterby for all their hard work in organising the Fete - the proceeds of which go to local organisations such as the Primary School."

Atmosphere was provided by the Amesbury Town Band, and the arena had displays by Andover Tai-Kwando Club, Oddballs Jugglers, and Line Dancing by the Bootleg Bugs.
The Scarecrow Competition was held again to coincide with Fete Week, this time generating 15 entries.
"This is a great idea; people in the village are asked to put a scarecrow where it can be seen - to liven up the place during the week. There were some good examples - the engineer up the telephone pole and the cyclist (see picture)"
