Sir George formally opened The Children's House in Steventon - a Montessori Pre-School for 2 to 5 year olds - based in the Village Hall and run by Marianne Preece.
"There is a shortage of facilities locally for this age-group, and the Montessori formula is well-tested and popular. Our children went to Montessori schools, and our grandchildren are now at them. The relationship between the school and the parents is at the heart of the success of the Montessori approach, together with the child-oriented focus which does what is best for each child."
Sir George was assisted at the opening by Jungle Jim and his emu, Camilla. "Camilla was not brought up by Rod Hull, and was very friendly."
After the opening, there was a fund-raising event for the Naomi Children's Hospice.
"I wish Marianne and her team every success in their new project; I was very impressed by the commitment and professionalism of those working for it."
