Along with Cllr Pat West, Sir George collects signatures for the petition organised by Age Concern. It calls for the retention of all existing services at Andover Hospital. The petition was collected outside the Guild Hall in Andover, and signed by Sir George and the Mayor of Test Valley. In the background is the Age Concern double-decker bus, promoting “Your Rights” week.
“There is real concern locally about Andover Hospital. Closing it would be unthinkable, but people are worried that fewer and fewer services will be provided there, meaning more journeys to Winchester. With the recent injection of funds into the NHS, those who have signed the petition want to change the debate from what services might be withdrawn, to what additional services might be provided.”
Sir George has a meeting with the local Health Authority on May 5th, when he will be pressing for assurances about the future of the hospital.
