"Nearly everyone seems to be holding a fete today; I have opened three - St Mary's Church, Andover; Clere School, Burghgclere; and Vigo Junior School, Andover. I visited another two - Whitchurch & Ramsdell - and looked in on Rookwood School's Open Day. And ended off the day at Faccombe. I am sorry to have missed Sherborne st John and Grateley - but will try to get to them next year."

At St Mary's Church Fete, Sir George talked to Wendy Wood who ran the Kenya Aid Stall. "There was a feeling amongst those who are concerned about aid and the G8 that we could have done better; and we will have to wait another four years before we get another shot at the issues."

At Vigo Junior School, former pupil Jade-Marie Palk compered the event and sang some songs. "Her career seems to be going from strength to strength." The Majorettes, hot foot from St Marys, gave a display.

"Jacke Green and the team did very well -and the proceeds will go twoards a wooden adventure trail in the school grounds."
