One of the marquees at the Goodworth Clatford Flower Show and Fete displayed the Riverside Project, being sponsored by the Goodworth Clatford Environmental Group. "This is a very exciting project to reclaim some of the land between the river and the Royal Oak, and make it into an accessible and enjoyable area."
Sir George said he was delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund was backing the project with some £20,000 of grant, and that the Parish Council and the Chestnut Fund had also been generous.
"I look forward to seeing the completed project, hopefully in the new year."
"The site is owned by the Parish Council on behalf of the village, and the Parish Council is keen to restore and maintain the riverside habitat, to enable everyone in the village to enjoy the special and rare riverside area. An environmental group has been established with the objective of restoring and maintaining this site, and advice has been received from the Forestry Commission, English Nature, the Environment Agency, Hampshire Conservation Volunteers, Hampshire Wildlife Trust, Southern Water and Test Valley Borough Council."
