One of the first visitors to Saxon Wood School at Rooksdown was the local MP, anxious to see the proposals for a mast and to meet local residents who were concerned about the plans. Sir George met Su Peters, the Borough Councillor for the ward, and Stephen Reid, the local County Councillor.
"Mike Davies, the Corporate Affairs Manager for Hutchison 3G UK Ltd, gave some helpful background briefing, and explained that it was a condition of their licence that they provide proper coverage for their network. Currently, there is an area near the Winklebury Roundabout where the signal is inadequate and they want to fill the gap. They would be interested in sharing with other operators who have already got masts in the area, but this suggestion was turned down, so far as the Manydown land is concerned."
"Residents I spoke to would prefer there to be no mast; but if there has to be one, they would like it to be on the other side of the roundabout (on the south side of the A339), behind a hedge. I said I would pursue this option with Hampshire County Council, who are joint owners of that site."
