Sir George condemns Government climb-down on Smoking
27 Oct 2005
"I think the Government has misread the mood of the country on this issue. Their botched compromise may reflect the balance of opinion in the Cabinet, but outside people were looking for a clear strong lead from the government on this key health issue. None of the other countries that have introduced a smoking ban have done what the government are proposing. I hope the bill will be amended as it goes through the House of Commons."
