Local Tories hold Trafalgar Dinner
29 Oct 2005
The North West Hampshire Conservative Association held a Trafalgar Dinner at St Mary Bourne Village Centre. Guest Speaker was Vice Admiral Mike Gretton.

Mike Gretton was Director of the Duke of Edinburgh Award for seven years after retiring from the Royal Navy. He lives nearby in Winchester.

"Mike Gretton gave a fascinating talk about Nelson, highlighting some of the contradictions in his character as well as explaining his brilliance as a tactician. Mike also said that he had one essential ingredient for a successful commander - luck. Combining profound reverence for God with patriotic love of his country, Nelson amazed his staff officers by taking time, immediately before battle, to write a prayer. Admiral Gretton's speech concluded with all present joining the toast "To the immortal memory", to which I had the privilege of responding on behalf of the Association.

After the speech, Peter Corbett conducted an auction, raising nearly £1000 for party funds.
