Sir George sees off cyclists on the Test Valley Tour
Leisure Services at Test Valley Borough Council are once again organising the Test Valley Tour. Now in its fourth year the "Tour" has been developed to include three new cycling events as well as continuing to offer the 25 cycling and walking routes which are available all year round.
The three events included a Road Route in the spring – launched above by Sir George - a Mountain Bike Challenge route in the summer and a Trailquest in the autumn. These events have been planned not only to encourage residents of the Test Valley and visitors from the southern region to take part in healthy outdoor activities, but also to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transport.
The Road Route took place on Sunday 16 April, starting from the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Arboretum between 9.00 am and 10.00 am. In order to widen its appeal three distances were offered, 100km, 50km or 20km. The 100km route followed a figure eight, taking participants to the north of the borough and back on mainly safe, quiet country roads and lanes.
“It was good to see so many people taking part in this event, from serious professional cyclists to families looking for a good day out.”
