"The costs of maintaining the Church and Churchyard at Burghclere are continually rising, and Michael Evans, the organist at the Monthly Evensong, has generously offered his help by playing the church organ, and his own electronic keyboard, for 6 hours on Saturday. I dropped in and heard him playing some magnificent Bach. He was also playing light music with excerpts from musicals. I applaud his skill and stamina and wish him well. I gather the Church was hoping for sponsorship of £20 for every five minutes, and have more than met their target."

Michael studied music at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Hea4 Ernest Read, and Sir John Barbirolli, and in 1964 was appointed Head of Music at Bulmershe School, Reading.
From 1974 to 1987, he was Music Advisor for Oxfordshire, and has conducted the Berkshire, Gloucestershire, and Oxfordshire Youth Orchestras at the Royal Albert Hall and the Festival HalL He has also worked extensively with physically handicapped children at a special school near Aldershot, has played the organ at St. Edward’s Cathedral, Jerusalem, and performed on Radio and Television. Michael has been Musical Director for over 150 musicals and operettas with societies in Oxford, Reading, Maidenhead, Slough, and Newbury. When not teaching piano, he is organist at the churches of East and West Hendred, Oxfordshire, Musical Director to St. Mary’s Church Choir, Chieveley, and the Downland Choristers.
