The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Paula Baker, offically opened the new Carnarvon Arms, and was presented with a cartoon for her nominated charity - HART - by cartoonist Oliver Preston.

"Aurelia and I were very impressed with the extensive refurbishment of this listed building. It is warmer and more welcoming than the previous interior, and the food prepared by Michelin star Chef Robert Clayton was superb"

"The new landlords, Frederic and Julia Dubois are a local couple who make you feel at home and I think the pub will attract people from Burghclere who want a pint and a snack - as well as others who want a more serious meal."

"Oliver Preston's cartoons around the wall reinforce the informal feeling in the building; and the 12 new bedrooms are of the highest quality."
"We hope to be back before too long."
