“I was most impressed by the large number of people who came to the public meeting at John Hanson School on Thursday, and by the strength of feeling that was displayed at the meeting. Many congratulations to Roger Pullen and Debbie Cattell on organising the meeting, and on mobilising public opinion in this constructive way.”

“I was delighted when Bridget Phelps responded to my request that the PCT think again, and see whether they can exhibit more flexibility in the financial framework for New Street. We know that there are people who are interested in taking over the practice, but the PCT’s policy of adhering to the ‘financial envelope’ has proved to be too restrictive. If they are able to be more flexible, then that would provide the basis for inviting tenders again, and seeing whether the existing practice can be retained.”

“I thought Bridget Phelps, Chris Evennett and Karen Ashton handled what could have been a difficult meeting very competently, and I look forward to the meeting which Bridget Phelps offered to me, to Debbie and to Roger to take things forward.”

The meeting is scheduled to take place on February 10th.
