Sir George spent part of Friday morning at Portway Infant and Portway Junior Schools, taking part in a Landscaping Project.
"The two schools enjoy a lot of open space round the buildings, and they want to see if they can make better use of it - and also improve safety on the site."
A road goes through the middle, and much of the space in the centre of the site is a congested car park"
"They are looking at relocating the parking at one end of the site, and removing traffic from the centre. At the same time, they are seeing how to make best use of the space. What was unusual about this project is that it is driven by the children; I enjoyed talking to them about the facilities they would like to have - and why they don't use some of the ones that they have. Top marks to the staff and to Hampshire County Council for this innovative approach to landscape design."
