Sir George welcomes advertisement of local commercial radio licence for Andover
9 Feb 2006
Sir George has welcomed the decision of Ofcom to advertise a new local commercial radio licence to serve Andover.

"But they are taking their time! I remember, on November 16th 2001, going to the Tesco car park to take part in the trial broadcast by Andover FM. Over four years later, after a successful trial period, Ofcom have at last got round to broadcasting the licence. It is almost quicker to build a new air terminal at Heathrow than to start a local broadcasting station."

"Nonetheless, I welcome the progress that has now been made, and I very much hope it won't be too long before a decision is taken and Andover can have its own local radio station."
