Guest Speaker at the Stockbridge Luncheon Club, supported by Romsey and North West Hants Conservatives, was Mark Hoban, MP for neighbouring Fareham, and Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
The event was chaired by Mrs Ann Homan, and also present was the Chairman of North West Hampshire Conservatives, Therese Coffey.
Speaking at the event, Mark Hoban referred to the centenary of the San Francisco earthquake and said the political tectonic plates in the UK were shifting.
On the one hand, Labour was losing the support of its core voters and, on the other, the new Leader of the Conservative Party was reaching out by talking about the issues that really concerned people. He believed that Labour's recent "chameleon" campaign was totally counter-productive and referred to a recent Newsnight broadcast which showed David Cameron holding the attention of the audience better than his rivals - and winning over former Labour voters.
He added that, in Parliament, it was Conservative MP's who raised key issues before the Labour Party - citing the crisis in residential care homes, NHS dentistry and cottage hospitals.
He concluded by saying that we could not leave everything to the leader of the Party - all MP's and memebrs had a role to play in securing the revival of the Party.
