17 new dwellings are being built by Testway Housing on land owned by Test Valley Borough Council - but they are homes with a difference.
"The theme of this development in Artists Way is environmental sensitivity; the thermal efficiency is greater than you would get in an off-the-shelf market house, producing minimal energy bills. The blocks used to build the homes conserve energy, and there are solar panels. The back-up generator burns wood pellets, and the materials used in the building are, wherever possible, from renewal sources."

Environmental science students from Cricklade College made a cup of tea for Sir George using solar energy, and Sir George and Lady Young pursued the environmental theme by arriving on their tandem. The Housing Corporation provided £1.175 million towards the scheme.
