Sir George opened the Thruxton Village Fete, organised by Jeremy Bally and Margaret Davis. County Cllr Pat West and her husband Peter supported the event, raising money for good causes in the village.
The beneficiaries are the Three Villages Sports Trust which exists to bring formal sports and recreational facilities to the villagers of Fyfield, KImpton and Thruxton; the Thruxton Village War Memorial Hall and the Church of St Peter & St Paul - the mediaeval carving of which has been the subject of a recent Ph D paper which will be presented on 17 June.
Some 300 people attended and a profit is expected of around £1000.
Hampshire County Council's Library Bus was in attendance, with music provided by a Barrel Organ provided by Mr and Mrs Stephens of Bishopton.
