Amport Church took a further stride towards its target of £175,000 by holding a Midsummer Dinner at Broad Meadow, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs David Pritchard.
"110 people came to this dinner, and were entertained by the Rev Canon Roger Boyle as the after-dinner speaker. Many had heard him broadcast or read his weekly columns, but this was the first time to meet him in the flesh. He has a marvellous repertoire of not wholly reverent anecdotes."

David Mallam organised the dinner and gave a progress report on the fund-raising. Amport Parish Council had given £3000, and £18,000 had been raised from people and organisations outside the village. The village itself had also responded generously.

The dinner raised over £3000.
