Sir George Young and Ian Carr, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, pledged their support for the campaign to retain the Post Office at One-Stop, Charlton.
"We both live nearby and are regular visitors to One-Stop. The Post Office is very important - not just for residents of Charlton, but for the nearby villages - the Pentons, Hatherden, Wildhern, Clanville and Appleshaw. There is enormous local concern that the plans put forward by Tesco do not appear to make provision for the retention of the Post Office; I have written to Terence Leahy, the Chief Executive, asking for an assurance that the Post Office will be retained."
"Without the Post Office in Charlton, users will have yo go all the way in to Andover
"The Parish Council is fighting a tremendous campaign, and has got a petition going. They have my full support."

Sir George was involved in a similar campaign in Whitchurch, which was successful and enabled the Post Office to be co-located in the new Tesco.
