While at the Party Conference, Sir George visited the Countryside Fair, held near Bournemouth Pier.
"There were a wide range of stands, one devoted to preserving rare species of butterfly, another selling countryside produce and another offering cooked venison."
"I looked in at the BASC stand, where they explained the need to keep a balance of the wildlife population. Too many pigeons, rabbits and deer can damage crops and the ecology, and their numbers need to be controlled. This can also provide a small but useful addition to the country's food supply."
