Dear Sir George,

Car Parking

Thank you for your letter dated 14 November 2006.

I confirm that South West Trains are committed to providing an additional 2000 car parking spaces during the term of the Franchise. With regard to potential of expansions at Andover, Grateley, Whitchurch and Overton the current position is as follows:
Andover - We are in early discussions with Test Valley Borough Council with regard to the provision of a decked car park in the existing station lease area. plans and Feasibility of such a scheme are still being reviewed.
Grateley - We are in early discussions with Test Valley Borough Council with regard to the provision of a level surface car park on the disused land behind the London bound platform which would provide capacity of approx 120 spaces.
Whitchurch - We are working in partnership with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to build 100 car park spaces to the north of the station. This is dependant on planning permission being given for the new Ardglen Business Park and northern access road.
Overton - We are in discussions with De la Rue with regard to the potential of purchasing land. However, making a business case for such a project (land purchase, making good ground conditions, lighting etc) will be difficult as the car park is free. Accordingly, we are reviewing options with Hampshire County Council with regards to the potential of Section 106 agreements to assist funding such a project.

The above schemes would be subject to planning authority approvals as well as a business cases being made.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
