The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane opened the new Village Hall in Sherborne St John in front of hundreds of local people.

"This new village hall replaces the old one, which was approaching the end of its useful life. The new one has facilities for a GP's surgery, a state-of-the-art kitchen and bar, and all the facilities one would expect in a 21st century community centre."
"It is located at the centre of the village, and is already picking up bookings. It has generous and secure storage space for the many groups which will be based there, and easy access to the village green. It has a large light main hall which is an enormous improvement on its predecessor."

"Ed Hall and the team on the parish council have done a first rate job in seeing this project through. At a time when it is getting tougher to raise funds for projects like this, they raised money from the Big Lottery, the County Council, the District Council and the Veolia Trust (owners of Onyx). The Parish Council and many local people also gave generously."

At the opening were the Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council, Mike Woodhall and the Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Council, John Leek."
