Sir George visited St Mary Bourne, the village where he used to live, to talk to those affected by last Tuesday's fire which burned out three thatched cottages.
"Mercifully, no one was hurt when these three thatched cottages burned down. They were Grade 11 listed buildings, right in the heart of the village. The Fire Brigade did well to contain the blaze."
90 fire fighters and fifteen appliances attended the place from across the county, and about £1m damage was done.

"For the families concerned, this is a tragedy as they have lost so many possession. St Mary Bourne is a very supportive village and will do all it can to help."
