Sir George Young attended a meeting at Abbotts Ann Village Hall, where the new owners of Andover Airfield put forward their plans for developing the site.

“While I welcome the decision by the developers to share their thoughts with local people, I am very concerned about the transport implications of these very substantial redevelopment proposals for Andover Airfield. I am exploring with the Highways Agency ways of accessing the A303 direct, in order to relieve pressure on One Hundred Acre Roundabout, and on the villages to the west of the site which might be used for rat-running.

I am also in touch with the Hampshire County Councillor for this ward, Pat West, to ensure that Hampshire County Council are fully aware of local concerns about the traffic implications of these proposals. Traffic is already coming through Grateley and Monxton to access the DLO site, using roads not built for this volume and there is real concern that the traffic generated by this new proposal wil make the situation even worse. There are also environmental issues riased by the sheer bulk of what is proposed."

"This proposal has come very fast from nowhere, with an application about to be lodged with Test Valley Borough Council. It would have major implications for Andover, if approved, and I am most anxious we should all have time to think this through."

Attending the meeting in Abbotts Ann Village Hall were Cllrs Sandra Hawke, Zilliah Brooks and Phil Lashbrook and about thirty local residents.
