Sir George calls for Free Station Car Parking at Weekends
23 Feb 2007
Sir George Young is pursuing with South West Trains the possibility of making the station car parks free at weekends, in order to encourage off-peak rail use. “I know South West Trains already provide free car parking at weekends at some of their stations, and I am urging them to consider this at the railway stations in my constituency.”

“I know they are concerned that this might simply divert shoppers and others from paying car parks but, in Andover, the station car park is some way from the town centre and I doubt if people would park there free on Saturdays and Sundays, and then make the trek into town.”

“I was pleased to hear from South West Trains that they are now doing a review of their ‘non-town’ car parks to see if there was anything more they can do.”
