The Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Diana Pagan, asked Sir George to host the Mayor's Annual Dinner in the Churchill Room at the House of Commons.
The event was to raise funds for two local charities, Meadow House Hospice, and the Log Cabin.
Sir George was MP for Ealing Acton from 1974 to 1997, when the seat was abolished.
As Guest Speaker, Sir George spoke about the changes in both central and local government since he first became an MP.
He regretted the loss of independence by local government; and the loss of authority by Parliament, as power became concentrated in the Executive.
