The grounds of Burghclere Primary School were packed as people flocked to the party to celebrate Ken Kelley's MBE. Ken was the former Head of the school, and the bandmaster for 25 years. (See next story for full details)
The band played under its new Master, Bill Ferrier, and the current Head - Jean Holdcroft - gave Ken another medal to add to his collection.
Speaking before Mark Sanderson gave Ken a cake, Sir George said he was proud that the small village of Burghclere in his constituency had produced the country's foremost primary school brass band. "Ken built on the foundations laid by his predecessor, Jenny Bright, who started the band; and he built the band up to what it is today. Not only has it performed in the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, and produced more Music Grade passes than any other primary school; but it has performed regularly at local events and raised money for local causes."

Sir George praised Ken for his enthusiasm and energy, and said the whole village bathed in the reflected glory of his achievement.
