Villagers in Shipton Bellinger have contacted Sir George, following news that their Sub Post Office is closing over the week-end, with no firm plans to re-open.

"A number of constituents have contacted me, as has Ellie Charnley, the local councillor. I have been in touch with Mr Gosney - the owner of the village shop where the Post office is based - who has put me in the picture."

"The position at the moment is that there will be no Post Office on Monday, as the temporary subpostmaster has not been replaced. I am concerned that, if we don't find someone to run the Post Office very soon, it will either become one of the planned closures that the Government has announced; or trade will go elsewhere and it will be difficult to win it back and have a viable post office again"

"I have therefore written to the Post Office asking for confirmation that they have no plans to close this sub post office; and asking them to pull out all the stops to find a replacement postmaster as soon as possible."

At the Village Fete, which Sir George opened on Sunday, he was handed twenty letters from people in the village concerned at the loss of the Post Office; and a petition was being collected at the WI Stall.
