At the suggestion of Test Valley Council of Community Service, Sir George spent an afternoon with the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association). In addition to its work with those who have physical disabilities, the RDA works with schools such as Wolverdene in Andover.
“I was most impressed by the work of Elizabeth Maclay (next to Sir George in the photo), and her helpers, with children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to ride. Eight children, each with a pony, spend over an hour not just learning how to ride, but learning about horses and the countryside.”
Elizabeth Maclay has built up a network of friends and supporters of RDA who lend their ponies and time; Andover has one of the most active branches of the RDA in the country.
