Continuing with its tradition of inviting guests with no party political affiliations to its Summer Barbecue, the North West Hants Patrons Club invited the recently retired Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Michael Jackson, to talk to them at Malshanger.
At the function was Chairman of the Patrons Club, Sandy Copland; the former MP for North West Hants, Sir David Mitchell; the Chairman of the North West Hants Conservative Association, Therese Coffey; Sir George and Lady Young and about 70 guests. The function was held by kind permnission of Sir Michael and Lady Colman at Malshanger House.
"Sir Michael spoke off the record, and I was left full of admiration for our soldiers in the front line in Afghanistan, earning £1400 per month and risking their lives to bring peace and stability to the region. As with Northern Ireland, where Sir Michael served, we need political solutions to political problems. It is unrealistic to expect the military to solve these issues on their own."
About 70 people attended the event. The next function will be in October when the Chairman of the Conservative Party will address a dinner in London.
