Sir George opens 6th Form Academy
2 Nov 2007
The Official Opening of the 6th Form Academy at Andover College took place, with a welcome given by the Chairman of Governors Geoff Healey and then a talk by the Principal Tim Jackson, outlining his vision for both the Academy and the College. He explaimned that a £40m investment was planned for the College over the years ahead.

Sir George said he was delighted to hear that Andover College was beginning to attract students who might hitherto have gone to Queen Mary or Peter Simmonds.
"I think education is the most important challenge facing Andover today. We need a fresh initiative, linking the primary and secondary schools, Andover College, employers and training providers to drive up the skills and qualifications of people in andover - and to drive up their aspiration. I hope more will go on from Andover to University."

Sir George said that the new college was building on the strengths of Cricklade, but the merger with Sparsholt College enabled the town to address its financial weakness. "I was keen that the merger should produce some quick results so people could see the difference. This refurbished building has the "wow" factor about it which immediately raises the morale of those who learn and teach here."
After the speeches, Sir George unveiled the plaque.
