Speaking at a Christmas Drinks Party held by Oakley Conservatives, attended by local councillors, Sir George said it was important that any reform of party funding should be even-handed.
"If the Government try to use their majority in the Commons to push through legislation that is partisan and one-sided, I hope the House of Lords will hold it up."

Sir George explained that the recently introduced Communications Allowance enabled incumbent MP's to publish, at taxpayer's expense, literature in which they featured prominently. "It is important to preserve as far as possible a level-playing field when it comes to the next General Election in that seat. Other political parties must not be prevented from matching that literature, paid for out of private donations, by publishing and distributing literature which features that MP's opponents."
