The Chairman of the Enham Alamein Parish Council, Leslie Barry, organised the first switching-on of the lights ceremony in the village, when two of the oldest residents did the honours. Edie Thomson, who has lived in the village for longer than anyone else, shared the responsibility with Charlie Wanstall, the oldest resident of the Enham Trust.

"Leslie did a great job bringing the two halves of the village together, organising the carols and the mulled wine and mince pies." There was a good turn out of all age groups and a festive spirit.
