Sir George visits the Millennium Green at Whitchurch, with the Trustees. From the left, Ron Aroskin, Peter Ball (Chairman), Cllr Gill Nethercott, Philippa Caine, Roy Dykes (Treasurer) and Cllr Alison Wall.
β€œThe Trustees have recreated a traditional English meadow, which is already very popular with local people. I was most impressed by the professional approach, and the care taken to restore the meadow to what it would have been. I also appreciate the efforts being made to screen the site from the A34, both visually and acoustically. It is a wonderfully peaceful spot.”
The Trustees had been assisted by grants from the Millennium Commission, Basingstoke and Deane Council, Hampshire County Council and generous local benefactors. The theme – as depicted on the gates – is a fish, to denote both the product of the Test and Christianity.
