Sir George gets progress report on Parking at Whitchurch Station
25 Mar 2008
This is the text of a letter Sir George has received from Stewart Palmer, Managing Director of South West Trains.

Thank you for your letter of 10 March and for bringing your constituents queries regarding Whitchurch car park to my attention.

We are in talks with Basingstoke and Deane Council about providing an extra car park at Whitchurch. As I am sure you are aware there is some discussion about the possible development of a business park (Ardglen), which should it go ahead, would leave a piece of land ideal for our needs to provide an additional car park. As I am sure you can appreciate our plans are very reliant on space being available and the local Council’s own plans for development.

In addition to the above, the expansion of car parking facilities at Whitchurch station is a complex one, not least because the area is one of outstanding natural beauty and we must be very careful about the environmental impact of our plans. The local area is, as I am sure you are more than aware of, very beloved, indeed we are currently in talks with the local town council about how we can help provide a gateway to Watership Down.

I do hope this information proves useful. Thank you for contacting me.
