100% of the staff at Shepherds Spring Preschool have qualifications, as opposed to around 60% for the average of preschools. Five members of staff added to their qualifications by getting NVQ4 certificates, which were presented by local MP Sir George Young.

"Shepherd Spring is planning to move to new premises in Smannell Road, but the staff found time over the past year to attend Peter Symonds in Winchester to complete the course for NVQ4 - which focusses on management skills."

"I was not surprised to hear that there is a waiting list for this pre-school, and I know that parents will have even greater confidence in the school, now that the staff have these additional qualifications."

"I congratulate them on their achievements."

NVQ success at Shepherds Spring Pre-school and Nursery

Improved safeguarding and inclusion policies, targeted programmes to promote children’s development and increased partnership working are on the agenda at Shepherd’s Spring Pre-school in Andover after five staff passed their NVQ Level 4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.

Audrey Wilson, Marilyn Glover, Yvonne Mannion, Jo Robinson and Tina McGettigan have all worked extremely hard, juggling their work and home life commitments whilst studying.

To complete the NVQ, Audrey, Marilyn, Yvonne, Jo and Tina attended college classes at the Adult Continuing Education Centre in Winchester once a month for a year and underwent practical assessments at the Pre-school.

Shepherd’s Spring held an official celebration ceremony and local MP Sir George Young visited to present the much-deserved certificates.

Shepherd’s Spring Pre-school was founded over 40 years ago and has been running from the same building near Cricketer’s Way. However, in 2009 the Pre-school will move to the new Children’s Centre on Smannell Road. In preparation, Shepherd’s Spring are adapting one of the rooms at their current site so they can care for babies from 0-2 years. With our five newly qualified staff, we are more than ready for the challenges of change.

Amanda Whittam
Secretary for the Committee at Shepherds Spring Pre-School
