Dear Sir George
I am writing to alert you to the new £70 million Places of Change Programme which I announced today.
The Places of Change Programme builds on the success of our three year Hostels Capital Improvement Programme which ran from January 2005. Over the past three years, capital investment into this programme has helped change derelict dormitories into places which genuinely transform the lives of homeless people. The aim of the Places of Change Programme is to continue to improve the services available to rough sleepers so they can make the transition from the street to a settled home. The programme will aim to increase the number of people moving on from their hostel or homelessness service in a positive way. A new outcome which all schemes must now achieve will be to increase the number of clients moving into education and employment.
Following a competitive bidding round you will be pleased to know that your constituency has been awarded £25,000 for the Andover Crisis and Support Centre.
For your reference, I have attached a press notice which gives a regional overview of the
successful projects .
The Hostels Capital Improvement Programme has already resulted in a 30% increase in clients moving on positively and a 30% reduction in exclusions or abandoments. I am confident that the Places of Change Programme will continue to transform the lives of homeless people in your area.
