Sir George opened a new project at New Street House, called Design Devils.

"This project is the initiative of Andover Community Education Group, and has been funded by grants from Testway Housing, and Test Valley and Hampshire County Councils. It has also has lottery funding."

The project will provide opportunities for the clients at New Street House to re-enter the job market, or form a co-operative or become self-employed.

"I met Andrew, who designs jewellery and is working from New Street House, and I saw the equipment they have for putting photos or logos on mouse-mats, T-shirts and mugs. It is very professional set-up"

"I congratulate Pam Diamond, who is the driving force for this project."

Also based in New Street House is an Alcohol Arrest Project. "This project can help those who have been arrested for alcohol or drug related incidents by counselling them and getting to the cause of their addiction. I was delighted to hear that they have helped three people give up alcohol entirely."

The courts can take into account, when giving a sentence, whether people have taken up the police's suggestion that they go to the referral project.

People staying at Dene Court Hostel can go to the project, as can anyone who wants to self-refer themselves.
