The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Warwick Lovegrove, presented copies of "The History of Tadley" to local schools, libraries, and to the Chairman of the Town Council.
The book was first published in 1913, after being written by an American lady, Florence Davidson, who wrote a number of local histories. With a grant from Basingstoke and Deane Council, the Tadley and District Society has reprinted it, with coloured illustrations, annotations and additional text.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairman of the Society, Bob Brown, said that this project had been planned for some time, but the grant made it possible. He thanked all those responsible for the production of the book.

"This is a quality publication, and the orginial is easier to understand as it has been simplified and explained" said Sir George. "More and more people want to find out more about the area they live in, why the roads have the names they have, and what happened in their town or village in days gone by. This information can now be conveniently accessed in Tadley, thanks to the work of the Tadley & District History Society.
