Sir George proposed the toast to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of Sealock - a family owned company based in Andover that manufactures adhesives.
He paid tribute to John Young, the founder and chairman, for building up a company that competed effectively with the giants in the industry such as Bostik. He praised the way the company looked after its staff - and its commitment to the town by staying and expanding in Andover instead of migrating elsewhere.
"After a difficult week when the Governor of the Bank of England was reminding us of that the good days are over, it was good to hear that Sealock are planning to expand."
Sir George said the company made so many products that you could say the world was held together by Sealock.
John Young (no relation) is planning to stand down from running the company and to hand over to his sons.
