Sir George presented the Platinum Volunteer Recognition Awards at Town Mill House. These were given to people who gave their time to work for Andover & District Age Concern. One recipient was the current Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Brian Page.
In turn, the Mayor awarded other vounteers with the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards.

The Chairman of Age Concern, Gabrielle Preedy, said that 10,920 hours of volunteer time were given over the past year. Sir George paid tribute to the work of the volunteers. "Life is better for today's senior citizens; but it is more complicated. People need more help to find their way round the benefit and tax credit systems, and I commend the work Age Concern do on this front."
Age Concern's toe-clipping service has also come under pressure, as the NHS restricts the availability of this service. And its Silver Surfer service has also grown in popularity.
